THE eggs-traordinary kindness and generosity of the people of Hacketstown was shown once again at the annual Easter egg appeal, when hundreds of eggs of all shapes and sizes were donated. Some weeks ago, local parish priest Fr Terence McGovern made the appeal from the altar for the community to donate Easter eggs or cash, and they answered his call in their droves!

Some 600 eggs were collected by Garda Pat Courtney from Fr McGovern’s house, which were delivered before the weekend to children in need in Tallaght. Pat, who works as a community garda in Tallaght, distributed the delicious chocolate eggs to charities which work with families in need, while he also brought the chocolate goodies directly to the families themselves. Edel Byrne, who lives in Hacketstown and who works as a public health nurse in Tallaght, was also involved in the egg-cellent Easter egg collection.

The Easter egg collection was started by former parish priest Fr Jim McCormack 25 years ago, while he also set up a similar appeal for toys at Christmas 29 years ago.

“The people of Hacketstown are so generous and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated either money or Easter eggs this year. Every year, they’re so generous, and this year 600 eggs is just amazing,” said a delighted Edel.
